What does becoming a CQI Fellow mean to you?
For me Fellowship is not only the next professional step but an opportunity to promote the importance of progression to my colleagues and to the next generation of Quality professionals. Being part of this membership organisation has given me confidence, leadership skills, networking opportunities and friendships that will last a lifetime.
How did you find the application process?
It was a great opportunity to pull together some of my achievements and the application process gave me the chance to share this with my colleagues on the interview panel. I am fortunate as I have had some great opportunities through my volunteer work but seeing this all come together is great.
What was the most challenging part of the application process?
The interview, talking around why I should be awarded Fellow was quite out of the norm. However, I like to push the boundaries and be out of my comfort zone it was a great experience.
What are the key characteristics of a Fellow?
I think that Fellows are Leaders of the profession. They should have integrity, good communication skills and a positive attitude. I think more importantly is that Fellows need to lead the charge in driving the profession forward and help support the CQI in making it sustainable for the future.
What advice would you give members aspiring to become a Fellow?
All membership to the CQI is becoming more and more important as industry begins to recognise the benefits that having a Chartered Quality professional can bring. Fellowship is however more as it demonstrates that you will go the extra mile in support your profession which is even more to celebrate. My advice is get involved in whatever small way that you can as this is what helps makes Fellowship achievable.
What advice would you give young quality professionals?
Take every opportunity presented to you even if you have never done anything like it before or you are terrified by it. Experience can be gained at any age. It is what sets you apart from others. So, have a go at whatever comes your way and use this information to help you work your way through your membership.
