The definition of a Guru is an influential teacher or a popular expert. In the case of Quality Gurus, these individuals have often influenced a new concept or approach to quality in business with a lasting impact.
Many define three groups of gurus since the 1940’s. The first in the early 1950’s where American’s took the quality message to Japan, the second in the late 1950’s with Japanese developing new concepts in response and 1970’s- 1980’s Western gurus who followed Japanese industrial success. So according to this alone we have had no new Gurus since the 1980’s!
Fortunately, most modern Gurus of quality are considered modern leading edge thinkers. These leading edge thinkers and others are potential Gurus out there and the NGN steering committee would welcome your thoughts on all things Gurus.
