Joseph Juran was a pioneer of modern quality teachings, specialising in the management of quality. He conducted seminars for top and mid-level management, providing guidance and emphasis on how critical their role is in the promotion of Quality.

The definition of a Guru is an influential teacher or a popular expert. In the case of Quality Gurus, these individuals have often influenced a new concept or approach to quality in business with a lasting impact.
Many define three groups of gurus since the 1940’s. The first in the early 1950’s where American’s took the quality message to Japan, the second in the late 1950’s with Japanese developing new concepts in response and 1970’s- 1980’s Western gurus who followed Japanese industrial success. So according to this alone we have had no new Gurus since the 1980’s!
